Sykle Club

The service aims to alleviate the students of NID from the misery of lost time and money arising from traveling to nearby locations using auto-rickshaws.

To make the students change their commuting habit and show them the evident benefits of Cycling and at the same time making the service a sustainable one the Skyle -Club model was designed.

Details Sykle Club is a proposed cycling club in NID. After analyzing the life of an NIDian we found the following important points with regard to transportation, conveyance and fitness:

• Most NIDians depend on auto-rickshaws for travelling within the city, even for short trips like to the ATM.
• Expenses on such transport form a large part of the total expenditure of the students.
• Auto-rickshaw is the only method of transportation.
• Lethargy and lack of physical recreation causes students to become unfit.
• Most of them want independent modes of transportation but cannot afford it.
• Most students want to travel in and around Ahmedabad.
Keeping the above in mind, we developed the Sykle Club. It is a club where students would pay an annual fee to NID and in turn they can use a cycle at anytime of the day or night provided by the institute.

The service would work in the following manner:
• Posters would be put around the campus for the existing students. New students would be informed through a leaflet about our service.
• The student would pay the Admin. a sum of Rs. 100 to get a Sykle Club Card.
• He can then show this card to the guard at the middle gate. The guard will scan the card to enter the information i.e. Name, Date, Time.
• He will then give the student the keys to the cycle, along with safety gear. Maps to the city would also be available, which can be attached to the cycle.
• The student can pick up the cycle from the stand where he can also find a water cooler, water bottles, weighing machine (to check weight and bmi).
• When the student returns he would return the keys and safety gear to the guard, place the cycle back at the stand and get his card scanned to register the time and date of return.
Other features:
• Maps highlighting cycle-friendly routes.
• Cycling Experts to advise on cycling and fitness.
• Each cycle would have emergency numbers written on them.
• The cycle would be specially branded to encourage students and avoid theft.
• Cycle clubs can be formed which can go on trips in and around the city.
• Cycle carries, t-shirt and other gears can be designed by the students.

The service would start with 20 cycles in the starting. Initially they can be sponsored by a cycle company. The revenue generated by the students participating can be used to buy new cycles and maintain them. A cycle would be issued to a student for 24hours. He can return the cycle at any time during these 24hours. A minimum inventory of 2 cycles would be maintained at all times. If it exceeds this quantity, the student can get the cycle re-issued. Upon failure to return the cycle the fine for the first day would be Rs. 25. Subsequent day would be 50 and then 100 and would grow exponentially.
